the san francisco bound american flight from miami ran into a few problems. arrests were made, we have the pictures. what san francisco police are saying about a 44-year-old man and a daughter and the man who rescued them. two men behind bars after a 100-mile chase that lasted two hours and went through the bay area, the surprise police found at the end of this marathon pursuit. new details emerges in the beating case of a giant fan, the legal request made by a former suspect.

the morning news continues. good morning thank you for joining us it's thursday july 28. i'm pam cook. >> and good morning i'm dave clark. let's check your weather and traffic, here's steve. >> we do have fog out there, emphasis again on the fog. you've heard this before i think you know the pattern. 90s inland, 70s and 60s at the shore. if you're driving at 680 looks good. this morning's commute looks very nice in oakland on interstate 880. it's 6:01 let's go back to the desk. new this morning, two men were arrested and removed from a san francisco plane. the plane bound for san francisco is an american airlines plane. jade hernandez is at sfo where passengers arrived two hours late but boy do they have a

story to tell. >> reporter: the plane was supposed to arrive just after midnight. but two unruly passengers on the plane forced the plane to return. we have pictures of a scuffle. a disruptive passenger situation escalated. the pilot turned the plane around and headed back to the gate. the plane was bound for sfo. witnesses say the two men who were asked to get off the plane managed to get into a scuffle with the pilot. >> they were just acting really erratic. just really suspicious and like they were drunk and bothering other passengers. and so we left to go to take off and then the pilot brought the plane back. >> then they walked out and they were escorted out of the door of the plane. they were standing there arguing with the captain, they did not want to leave, they did not want to get off the plane. one of the guys punched the captain right in the eye right

here in his face. >> and the pilot wasn't seriously hurt but he had to be replaced for the new flight. this is video of the plane which arrived at sfo from miami. now we understand at the time of the incident there were 178 passengers and six crew members on board at the time. police eventually made an arrest and the two men will no longer be flying the friendly skies with them. the fbi, tsa and local police were involved in this incident. jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. time now 6:03, there was more trouble on another flight. this one from london. hannah shiner of roseville was arrested when her plane landed in philadelphia. she's accused of threatening the flight crew and passengers allegedly saying she was going to blow up the plane. shiner is facing charges of disorderly conduct and making threats. a father and daughter are safe this morning thanks to a

good samaritan. kraid debro is live, a man is credited for saving the two. >> reporter: there was family of people some where in a hot tub. the father and daughter were in the pool. when the family in the hot tub did not notice the father and daughter anymore. one of the people jumped up and saved both of them. and they did get a chance to thank them turns out. this all happened in the regency townhomes. a group of people were sitting in the tub at the complex. from the tub they could see a man and his daughter in the swimming pool. the conversation was noticeable. when the conversation stop the people in the hot tub noticed that too. it's not clear if the rescue was also in the hot tub or a resident, but a friend of the family went to the pool. saw a horrible sight. he saw the father and daughter at the bottom of the pool. he jumped in, he pulled both of

them out. that 44-year-old man and his daughter were revived after second. he gave them cpr. firefighters say if that men had not been here those few seconds probably saved their lives. still working on contacting people here as well as those involved in the incident. reporting live in san jose, kraig debro. attorneys in a man wrongly accused in the beating of bryan stow are asking for police to release him from prison. the parol board gave in to political and public pressure surrounding the brutal beating of the giant's fan outside dodger stadium says ramirez attorney. ramirez was held on a weapons allegation for months without

formally being charged. one of the new suspects is marvin norwood. tmz says he has a long rap sheet which includes a conviction for spousal abuse. a judge ordered him to anger management. he completed that program just two years ago. martin and the other suspect, louie sanchez remain behind bars on a $2 million bail. a marathon police chase across the east bay and beyond. ktvu's cameras caught the chaise as it was happening last night. police finally arrested the two men south of stockton after chasing them 100 miles. at first the authorities thought they were fugitives wanted for homicides in both east palo alto and in colorado. later though they found out the car is registered to one of the

homicide suspects. back in san francisco, it appears ed lee has changed his mind. today's chronicle reports he is expected to announce next week he will run for mayor of san francisco after all. that would give ed lee more than enough time to meet the august 12th filing deadline. the 59-year-old interim major was chosen to replace former mayor gavin newsom and said he would not run for mayor. however, the run ed run campaign has taken steam. many of boehner's fellow republicans say they will vote against the bill. and democrats say it stands no chance of passage there. coming up at 6:15, we're going to have a live record from our

washington, d.c. newsroom on what's next as the clock ticks down to that deadline. this morning, realty track says foreclosure activity in most major cities and the suburbs is down. but it's because banks are not moving as quickly against homeowners who are delinquent on the homeowners. it adds that late mortgage holders are not moving so quickly to give the homeowners time to make payments. the plan details when, how, and how much the city will repay its creditors. most of vallejo's creditors are supporting the plan. this morning a superior court judge is expected to issue a ruling that would strike a measure from the

november ballot proposing a ban on circumcision in san francisco. in a tentative ruling yesterday, the judge said only the state can regulate medical procedures not a city. opponents of circumcision call it unnecessary and painful. jewish and muslim groups filed a lawsuit against the ban saying it would be an infringement on their religious freedom. richard chavez, a leader in the california union movement has died. chavez passed away yesterday after complications from surgery. along with his brother, cesar chavez, they built the united farm workers of america. during his work with the union, chavez organized boycotts of table grapes. he was in charge of administering union contracts and many other things. richard chavez was 81 years old. time now is 6:09. we want to go back over to sal for a look at traffic this morning. >> pam and dave good morning. the traffic is actually moving along relatively well around

the bay area. as you can see, if you were to drive to 237 you really wouldn't hate the commute. in the traffic term, hate a strong word. but right now it's looking good. interstate880 both directions trafficking moving along nicely. but this is before things start getting busy. i'm happy to tell you that we're not seeing a lot of problems on the road right now. as you look at the commute. the traffic continues to move along very nicely. as we check in with contra costa county. we're seeing a little more clearing. 680 looks good just south of the bene kr-rbg cia bridge all the way to beautiful sunol california. >> it looks like the north bay is getting most of the fog.

so they'll have temperatures in the 80s. they're really not getting involved in this big warm up if you're headed out to santa clara, they're getting in the 90s. but we're getting a lot of fog here. it's shallow but it's moving into parts of the south bay. so fog then sun, cool to mild to nice to warm to hot. depending on where you are in proximity of that fog and coast. it's a cool pattern, inland upper 80s. 90, 95 for those warmest locations unless you're really far away from the coast and maybe a few pushing in a little bit further than that. there are signs that next week another weak little system will come in which will start another cooling trend that won't be until saturday or sunday. 50s in these temps. concord 55. same for napa, san rafael. san francisco, oakland, livermore 58. and high pressure continues, i

think it's put on the brakes. i really do. what we had yesterday is taking into today. maybe some tropical clouds coming around that. again it moves into the sierra of southern california. sunny inland, warming ends by friday, maybe even saturday. we'll have to keep an eye to the south. fog some of that is very thick, thick, thick is where the sun. mild to warm. breezy at times, it's a little warmer component of the sea breeze. stinson 60. petaluma 85. these are close to seasonal average. castro valley at 80. low valleys, santa clara valley, 80 which is slightly above average for this time of year should be about 78. redwood city 78. that's about two below average for this time of year.

welcome back to the morning news. it's now 6:15 and a new york boxer is suing the transportation security administration claiming discrimination. 32-year-old michael constantino was born with only one hand. he applied to become a tsa security screening at la guardia airport. he said he passed the interview, the background check and thought he passed the exam. but says he feels discriminated because he only has one hand. >> i passed everything that was required. but they just assumed that because i was born with only one hand i couldn't do the job. time now 6:15, the house in washington will vote on speaker

john boehner's ceiling plan. allison burns live in the washington, d.c. newsroom. and she has new information on when that vote will happen. >> reporter: john boehner will have a news conference then we expect to have a vote. a lot of law makers still don't like boehner's plan. time is running out with five days left before the u.s. hits its debt limit. bay area democrats are also against the boehner plan, they want a longer term increase in the debt limit and they are expressing their frustration to us about the whole process. >> the american people rightfully are sick and tires of the sand box activity going on here. it's a sham bill. and i think the american people deserve so much more, so much better. >> reporter: now even if speaker boehner his plan passes

the house, senate democrats are saying it is dead on arrival. so while all of this is going on, the white house is preparing for the potential of a u.s. defaulting for the -- the possibility of the u.s. defaulting for the first time in history and trying to decide who would get paid and who wouldn't. allison burns. there's new word eric holder has agreed to meet with relatives of september 11 victims on august 24th. the family members want to talk about allegations of journalists working for britain's news corp. tried to get access of the phone records of the september 11 victims. lawyers representing 20 of the family members say they hope the hacking allegations are not true but they want a thorough investigation. angry parents in the sacramento area plan to pack the city council in citrus heights tonight. they want to show support of

robert adams. he's accused of molestic several young students but he has not been charged of a crime. sal says there's a new crash in san jose. where did that happen? >> 680 southbound at mckee. this road is partially blocked with this injury crash. but we're getting some good news. apparently they were able to clear it from the lanes rather quickly and there are only minor injuries. nevertheless you will see it at mckee road. if you are driving on the peninsula getting to the south bay, so far so good on 101 and 280 as far as not that many lanes of obstruction across the bay. 880 looks good. again if you're driving into oakland toward the bay bridge toll plaza. that traffic is nice this morning on the east shore freeway 80 is in good shape between vallejo and richmond. out to some live pictures,

traffic moves well. on highway 4, traffic moving well. that's mist and fog, but i think it's moving along well. you can see traffic is moving along okay. there goes b.a.r.t. b.a.r.t. is starting off the morning. they say they are on time. we do have areas of fog and temperatures close to yesterday's numbers. if anything we're right where we need to be as far as seasonal numbers. we'll show you those in just a seconds. fog over oakland, some of it moves inland but it's very shallow. napa 83, it's right where you should be. fremont 78, today we're going 79. redwood city 81 today we're going 78. so we're close, a little above or a little below. temperatures have been about average, they've been below for

a very long time. 50s, or 60s. concord at 65. winds a little calmer yesterday. there's hints of a little stronger sea breeze. breezy at times not h much change if you're in the -- not much change if you're in the fog or around the fog mid-60s. inland you're 70s and 80s. maybe higher clouds saturday. cooler weather starts as we two into the first week of august. >> all right, thank you steve. 6:21 is the time. duncan donuts got a sweet reception on its first day of trading. it started at $19 a share. at the end of the day it was

trading at $28. dunkin donuts is planning to expand. maybe we'll get one near us. and passengers who got tickets on saturday and didn't fly until this week should be entitled to refund of taxes. the refund should come from the airlines but it's possible they could get a refund from the irs we'll see. >> okay. time now 6:21. waking up, dreaming of being a warrior girl. your big chance could be this weekend. the city of los angeles has decided to end its red light camera program. could the same thing happen here in the bay area? sunol grade, traffic looks good heading to the south bay. we'll be back with more traffic and weather.

people safe. they want the program to continue. well the host of a popular tv game show is set to undergo surgery tomorrow after putting his own safety in jeopardy. alex trebeck showed up on crutches to host an event at google's mountain view headquarters yesterday after a bizarre incident in san francisco early tuesday morning. trebek said he injured his leg in a theft attempt in his hotel. hotel agents nabbed the suspect. she's due in court later today. trebek will be in crutches for the next six weeks. time now 6:26. the warrior girls are looking for new dancers. starting this saturday, the warriors will hold auditions. all 18 spots are open. last year's dancers are not

guaranteed a call back. they're going to have to audition all over again. we talked to two of the dancers that just finished their season who say it's a pretty tough process. >> each year every girl has to try out. our spots are not guaranteed whatsoever. we have to fight just as hard as the other girls. and again, it's a touch competition. well the auditions take place over several days and starting this weekend you have the first round. then the semi finals. finalists will take place then the final squad is announced. if you have what it takes, the first round of auditions will be held at the san ramon club sports on bollinger canyon lane. it'll start this saturday at 8:00 a.m. time now 6:27. a disturbance on a san francisco bound flight out of miami. it led to two people being arrested and removed from the flight. state regulators ordered a part of a pipeline to be

now two men could face charges. ktvu's jade hernandez is at sfo right now with a look and details on who was arrested and exactly what happened, jade. >> reporter: that's right, we have mug shots at this hour. we could tell you passengers were two hours late and they had quite a story to tell when they landed. two unruly men on board this american airlines flight bound for sfo from miami. one of those men witnesses say on board punched the pilot. you can see here jonathan and luis daniel baez were arrested after two men were down after police made arrests last night. the police report says the flight attendant noticed jonathan baez didn't have his seat belt on and tried to wake him but he was unresponsive. it seemed to the attendant the man was drunk or high on drugs, she then alerted the pilot.

flight 1755 was taxing for take off when the situation escalated. the plane turned around and headed right back to the gate. witnesses say the two men who were asked to get off the plane by the airline were upset and managed to scuffle with the pilot. >> they were escorting the gentlemens off the plane as they got through the side door there, one of them actually struck the pilot right in his face. that's when everybody jumped up and the guy along with myself that jumped up to head to the front to help out the situation. we kind of waited to see what was going to happen and he struck the officer again. >> reporter: this is video of the plane which arrived at sfo from miami at 2:15 with passengers who endured that long late flight. the plane was supposed to land just after midnight last night. the pilot was not hurt but he had to be replaced for the new flight out of sfo.

there were 260 passengers on board and two crew members at the time of this incident. the airline says the two men will no longer be flying with american airlines. american airlines say the fbi, tsa and local police were involved with this incident. reporting live at sfo this weekend, jade hernandez. an old pipe is creating new safety concerns in the neighborhood devastated in last year's disasterrous explosion. paul chambers is here with the story. >> reporter: pg & e planned to have a crew out here. we're going to go to video there. federal investigators looking into the san bruno explosion released 4,000 pages of documents last week that contain information about flawed pg & e pipe weld. the cpuc contains to

investigate last year's explosion. it ordered pg & e to dig up the abandoned pipe. now in the report released last week a retired pg & e engineer talked about the fatally flawed pipe segment. it's unclear if that line was the one that ruptured last september or if it's the one being removed today or another one all together. after this current pipe is removed it's reported it'll be turned over to investigators, the primary investigation is the ntsb they plan to have a report released before september. hopefully now conduction out here will begin at 8:00 this morning. of course we'll stay on top of this and be here when this happens. it's expected to last about two days. live in san bruno, i'm paul chambers. time now 6:34. one of the two men suspected of killing a woman and then setting her on fire will be in court today. 31-year-old hector garcia is facing kidnapping charges in the death of monica rodas. we don't know a motive in this case. now the mother of mrs. rodas

says she will be in court, she will face garcia for the first time. yesterday she gave a speech to teenagers in oakland asking them to stop the violence in the city. prosecutors say garcia and another man killed monica rodas and then dumped her body and burned it in north oakland earlier this month. both men are suspected gang members. today a woman charges with trying to lure a child from her mother is scheduled to be arranged. 26-year-old mayra florez is accused of trying to lure a 3- year-old with candy and grab her out of her mother's arm. the child's mother says florez wanted blood from the little girl saying she belonged to her. the mother was able to fight back and the little girl was not hurt. a consumer group is planning to protest pg & e's smart meter program today. the group called stop smart meters plans to attend this morning's california public

utility's commission in san francisco. the group claims that smart meters emit dangerous radiation. today b.a.r.t. officers will be graduating from a mental health training. one b.a.r.t. officer says he was especially interested in the lesson about deescalating threats. b.a.r.t. officers have been involved in three shootings in the past year. they say that training could have helped them in both situations. los altos police released a sketch of a man accused of flashing a child. they say he drove up to the victim monday and exposed himself, then took off. police say he was driving a black ford f series pickup truck just like this one you

see here. it's got a distinguishing mark, a pair of stripes on the tailgate of the truck. family and friends are still searching for answers in the case of missing nursing student michelle le. last night they held a rally and marched to kaiser permanente in hayward which was the last place le was seen alive. coming up next, what police are saying about possible arrests. lane changes in one san jose neighborhood could affect the commute for some drivers. today sections of fourth and st. james street north of downtown will be converted from one way to two way traffic. it's an effort to slow drivers down, add more bike lanes and improve pedestrian safety. time now 6:37 at the same time. sal is going to help everybody where they need to go, sal. >> good morning, right now traffic is actually doing pretty well around the bay area. this is a look at interstate 880 as you're driving past the hagenburge turn off.

you can see that traffic is moving off nicely in both directions. also this morning we're looking at the commute driving on the freeway a little farther south. there are no major problems there. if you are driving this morning on 237 traffic continues to, it's getting busier. you can see a little bunching up on the 880 interchange. at 6:37, let's go to steve. >> we have some fog on the bog there. very low for some. kind of just working its way down. too much fog on the coast. this warming trend is mainly for those who are inland. i think right around where we were yesterday is where we will stay today and probably into friday then. next week is looking cooler. fog or clear and what's interesting to note is the overnight lows are cool. even if we want up into the 90s. temperatures warm up to the 50s a lot. so we're not really in a hot pattern or anything. we're just getting a pattern where temperatures are near average. coast fog by noon, then sunny then sunny for most by this

afternoon. but any where from 60s to mid- 90s. temperatures for today, we should be, we these being napa, fremont, redwood city. that's exactly what i'm forecasting today, napa 83, fremont 78 i went 79. redwood city 81, they'll be 79. so a little above, a little below. not much going on. it's a quiet pattern. the high is not going to do much but it will start to move out by sunday, monday. 50s on these temps as we mentioned are very low 60s. 55 napa, same for san rafael. a slightly more component of a sea breeze today. not a lot but more of a west- northwest at san francisco sfo i should say and oakland and also out at fairfield. not much. it's calm for much locations, but fog looks to be thickest toward marine county. they're not going to get that warm. there's been a little hint of a south wind which keeps them cool in this pattern.

the high built in yesterday and now it's just going to park it for a day or two. the only caveat or the fly in the ointment is a little thunderstorms. no big changes. castro valley 80, brentwood 95. berkeley 70. livermore 92. same for morgan hill. there's that 79 in fremont, 79 mountain view, 82 wood side. 60s at the coast, just too much fog. changes friday. few high clouds are possible friday. then a cooling trend sunday and looks most of next week. >> well from the space to the depths of the ocean. the reason the international space station could soon end up under water. what san jose police are saying about a man who pulled a

this morning two men were arrested on an american airlines flight bound to san francisco accused of attacking the pilot. it was a miami to san francisco flight. the investigation of this continues. today's chronicle reports ed lee will announce he will run for mayor of san francisco after all. now lee was appointed to replace gavin newsom after promising he would not run for a full term in november. however the run ed run campaign has picked up steam in the last couple of months. in washington today, the house will vote on house speaker john boehner's debt ceiling plan. the democrats say even if it does pass in the house it is dead on arrival in the senate. congress only has until next tuesday august 2nd to raise the national debt limit. a san jose man is being called a hero after rescuing two people who almost drowned. ktvu's kraig debro is on the scene with details on what led

up to this rescue. >> good morning pam. a very serious story. we don't know the man's name just yet. these are the regional townhomes. we're back here on the street because this is private property we're respecting that. but that building is part of the pool complex. there's actually two pools and two hot tubs. a lot of people we talked to this morning didn't even know what happened. some say they saw police and ambulance out here. but none were aware of the high drama that took place out here last night. a group of people were sitting in the hot tub in the complex last night. then from the hot tub they could see a man and his daughter in the swimming pool. a published report says the people in the hot tub and the people in the pool were a part of the same party. now, they noticed the conversation, they noticed the man and his daughter were having a good time. suddenly they didn't hear anything, they didn't see anything. one of the people in the hot tub gets out of the hot tub, goes to the pool and sees the man and his daughter at the bottom of the pool. a 44-year-old man and his 6-

year-old daughter. he pulls both of these people out of the pool and he starts giving cpr to the girl. meantime other people come over from the hot tub and perhaps other areas of the complex and help the man. they give him cpr. that's according to the san jose mercury news. both were pulled out of the pool. the guy gives one person cpr, others give the man cpr. the daughter and the man were revived a few seconds later. by the time first responders got here they were okay but they were still having trouble breathing. they were taken to the hospital and where they are recovering right now. perhaps they've been released, we're in the process of contacting board members here, contacting people who live here but so far very few people even knew what went on here last night. reporting live in san jose, kraig debro. time now 6:46, boy there was chaos in hollywood last night outside of a movie screening, the crowd got out of control but we're told it was not not a lot of damage. the party started at a block party yesterday evening.

look at the police out on the street. riot police were called in when the crowd refused to leave. some people threw rocks and bottles. two people were arrested for a felony vandalism. we haven't heard of any injuries yet. this was supposed to be a film about a rave festival. family members and friends of missing nursing student michelle le are still looking for answers. >> hope never gives up on us, we give up on it. so please keep hope with us. >> reporter: they marched to the last place where michelle le was seen alive. may 27th police say she walked to the parking garage on kaiser permanente in hayward and was never seen again. police are calling this case a homicide and they say they are getting close to getting some answers. >> there'll be some time in the not so far future that we'll be able to identify our suspect or suspects. >> reporter: michelle le's

family says they're going to keep looking for her. they've organized searchers in niles canyon which was the last place her cell phone was used. there's also a $100,000 reward for information to help solve the case. skateboarding regulations will be reviewed today in capitola after the death of an elderly woman. 83-year-old maryan sutna died early this morning after a teenager on a skateboard accidentally hit her. her granddaughter is now asking city officials for improved regulations and education about skateboarding. the international space station could be headed to a watery grave at the end of the mission. scientists are concerned about hazardous space jump coming off

if you drive on highway 4, you're saying so what's new. 680 is still light. now let's go to steve. >> sal, thank you and a very good morning. low clouds and some of this fog is snaking its way around. very low cloud. when it's this low it burns off fast. by the coast it's very stubborn. temperatures will probably carry it into today. if you're by it too much fog, if you're inland temperatures warm to hot. low clouds, sun and cool mild, nice hot. thick morning fog, temperatures are stuck though. what we have today, within one or two degrees of the day tomorrow. sun and clouds, i say clouds there's a possibility of higher clouds coming saturday. i will believe it when i see it. i will deal with it tomorrow. cooler sunday and all signs, every forecast model is in sync for this. weak as it may be but it

doesn't take much. 50s and 60s, nothing outrageous or anything. fairfield is at only 15 miles per hour. some of those tropical clouds are headed to the sierra, maybe keep an eye on the sky. but for us what we see is what we get. the fog burns off, sometimes it takes a while for it to happen near the coast. but fog then sun, cool to hot. we had 90s yesterday, we'll hold on to those today and tomorrow but it's a quiet, very quiet pattern. 90s well inland. so mild for some, warm for others. the breeze might kick off a little bit. looks like more fog is focusing its energy on the north bay today. so 60s, 70s, 80s, only 83 sonoma, 83 napa. 97 clear lake. eight vallejo. 93 fairfield. same for pittsburg, walnut

welcome back, time now 6:55, seven new networks are being launched for the pac12 conference. the northern california network will show cal and stanford. football and men's basketball will be broadcast on all of the networks, and those networks will be launched nest august. we're getting a look now at the plans for the proposed football stadium in los angeles. it'll cost about a billion dollars to build this. the developer says no taxpayer money will be used for this. a vote on the funding is expected next week. looks like governor jerry brown is off the hook for jury duty. the governor was summoned for
